This five-day Special FX and Character Makeup summer course at Arts University Bournemouth is designed for aspiring makeup artists aged 12-15. Delivered in AUB's dedicated makeup studios, the course introduces a wide range of special effects and character-makeup techniques suitable for performance, fashion, film and television.
Sessions are practical and hands-on, with students working on each other and developing skills in prosthetics, casualty effects, wigs and bald caps, and creative character design. Over the week participants are guided by experienced tutor Julia Carter and will work towards a final character makeup project that is photographed and displayed in an end-of-course exhibition attended by friends and family.
The course emphasises health and safety, materials preparation and application, and builds communication skills and confidence. A certificate confirming achievement can be requested for students with 100% attendance.
Bookings are made via AUB's secure online store. The course includes all materials and resources in the fee; parents/guardians should provide a packed lunch and ensure snacks are nut-free.
