The Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport & Exercise Science at Northern Regional College (Coleraine) is a practical, work-related two-year full-time course equivalent to three A-Levels. Students learn through projects and assignments that reflect realistic workplace situations and develop skills for careers in sports science, the sports and leisure sector, or progression to higher education.
Core units include Anatomy for Sport and Exercise, Sport and Exercise Physiology, Sport and Exercise Psychology, and Sports Biomechanics in Action. The course includes practical opportunities such as up to 10 hours additional football training per week delivered by UEFA licence coaches, 20+ college football matches per year, scholarship opportunities in the USA, and routine fitness testing (STATSports, Veo camera analysis).
All units are assessed and graded to produce an overall qualification grade. Entry requires applicants to be at least 16 by 1 July in the year of entry and normally hold at least four GCSEs at Grade C or above (or equivalent qualifications/work experience).
Students accepted without Grade C in Maths or English must complete the relevant Essential Skills qualification as part of their timetable. The course is delivered on-campus at the Coleraine campus and supports progression to employment or university-level study in sports science and related subjects.
