Fancy turning thread into 3D flowers? Join Lucy Newman’s five-day embroidery workshop to learn stumpwork, wired slips, thread painting and raised embellishment-build portfolio-ready pieces, practical skills and creative confidence. Apply by 14 February 2026.

This five-day embroidery workshop led by embroidery artist Lucy Newman introduces students to a range of stitches and techniques used in 3D Stumpwork embroidery. Participants will be guided step-by-step to create wired slips, use thread painting, and incorporate raised work and embellishment to produce delicate spring flowers such as crocuses, snowdrops, and daffodils.

Some previous embroidery experience is beneficial but not essential.

Sessions run daily from 10:00 to approximately 16:30 at Bow Road Studios, London E3. The course aims to develop practical hand skills, creative making techniques, and an understanding of materials and surface detail.

The tutor, Lucy Newman, is an award-winning embroidery artist and founder of LJN STUDIO, and will provide individual guidance throughout the workshop.

The workshop is fully funded by sponsors and places are limited to 12 participants. Applicants must be aged 16-19 during the workshop dates and able to attend every day. To apply, complete the online application form linked on the workshop page.

  • Be creative and have an interest in related careers (e.g., Architecture, Engineering, Fine Art, Jewellery Making, Art Conservation, Glass Working, Theatre Design, Fashion Design, Costume Design).
  • Have good hand-eye co-ordination.
  • Demonstrate a passion for working with your hands in the application.
  • Must be able to attend every day of the five-day workshop.
