Want to turn paper and yarn into striking mixed-media art? Join our one-day workshop to learn weaving, yarn-wrapping, colour theory and pattern design, build practical skills, experiment creatively and take multiple artworks home.

Deadline in 89 days

This hands-on, one-day workshop introduces paper weaving and yarn wrapping techniques as part of a contemporary mixed-media approach. Participants will learn fundamental paper weaving methods and yarn wrapping, explore colour theory and pattern design, and apply textile-inspired manipulations to create multiple small artworks to take home.

Sessions combine technical skill-building with creative experimentation: simple checkerboard weaves through to more complex geometric patterns and wrapped sculptural pieces. The workshop emphasises practical making, material exploration and pattern development while introducing processes used by contemporary textile designers.

The day is led by Nick Rodgers (Subject Group Lead for Materials Specialisms, De Montfort University) and is aimed at young people interested in craft, design and related career paths. Practical guidance, demonstrations and individual support will be provided throughout the session.
