Explore nursing through simulated case studies, workshops and a one-day observation placement in an acute or community setting. The summer programme also covers personal statements and university preparation, with shorter insight days running during the year.

Step Into Nursing gives senior school pupils a tailored introduction to the diverse field of nursing. It combines a structured summer programme with simulated case studies, workshops and a one-day observation placement in either acute or community settings.

The experience also includes discussion sessions on topics such as personal statements and preparing for university, helping participants think about the next steps after school. Alongside the summer programme, NHS Lothian also runs insight days during the year for shorter focused exploration of nursing.

This opportunity is aimed at 16 to 18 year olds who live or study in Edinburgh or the Lothians. Applications for the 2026 cycle are closed, but students can still register their interest for future opportunities.
