Apply NowWant to turn your creativity into a uni-ready portfolio? Join Study Mind’s summer Graphic Design work experience to build projects, learn typography, branding and illustration, visit studios and connect with industry pros - one, two or three-week options to boost your portfolio.
Study Mind’s Graphic Design Work Experience is a hands-on summer programme aimed primarily at Year 12 students and other 15-18 year olds who want to build a university-ready design portfolio and explore creative careers. The programme combines practical workshops (typography, branding, layout, illustration), studio-based projects and visits to working design studios where students meet industry professionals and observe real project workflows.
Participants choose from 1-, 2- or 3-week options. Typical activities include creating work for a mock client in Illustrator, building a brand identity and style guide, portfolio coaching and UCAS application support.
Small class sizes (maximum 12) ensure personalised feedback. Residential participants stay in Ramsay Hall (UCL) in single occupancy rooms; local students can attend non-residentially. On completion students receive a certificate recognising their participation and practical experience to support university and job applications.
Study Mind runs a bursary scheme (full, 75%, 50%) for students from disadvantaged backgrounds; bursary applicants must provide evidence (Universal Credit, Free School Meals or Pupil Premium), complete an essay and submit a teacher reference. For booking, students select their programme and dates and enrol online via the Study Mind website.
