Study Minds Media & Journalism Work Experience is a hands-on, immersive programme based in central London designed to introduce students to careers in journalism and media. Participants choose either a one-week or two-week programme and take part in practical workshops, industry days, and visits to newsrooms, media agencies and broadcast studios.
Class sizes are kept small (10-12 students) to maximise interaction and personalised feedback. Throughout the programme students will learn practical skills including podcasting (structure, recording and editing), broadcasting journalism (scripting, filming and presenting), media production (visual storytelling and editing) and news writing (structure, clarity and accuracy).
Work produced during the course contributes to a portfolio useful for university applications and students receive a certificate upon completion to support UCAS applications and CVs. Logistics are student-friendly: workshops and industry placements are held across central London, and a residential option places students at Ramsay Hall (University College London) in single-occupancy rooms with shared facilities.
Study Mind runs a bursary scheme (full, 75% and 50% places) for eligible disadvantaged students; bursary applicants must submit evidence and an essay. For booking and enquiries, students are instructed to enrol via the Study Mind website or contact the team directly.
