Want real GP experience this summer? Join Study Mind's in-person programme to shadow GPs, practise clinical skills and observe consultations. Build diagnostic confidence, strengthen your medical application and connect with NHS clinicians—choose a 1-, 2- or 3-week placement. Apply by 31 July 2026.

Deadline in 211 days

Study Mind's GP Work Experience Programme is an in-person summer placement designed to give students hands-on exposure to primary care. Participants shadow GPs and other medical staff in NHS GP practices, observe patient consultations, learn diagnostic reasoning, and see how treatment plans and referrals are made.

The programme includes practical activities such as simulations and clinical skills sessions to strengthen students' understanding of everyday GP practice. Courses run as 1-, 2- or 3-week options with small class sizes (10-12 students).

The 2- and 3-week options include extended content such as a Careers & Life Skills week and choices to add medicine-focused days. Residential participants stay at Ramsay Hall (UCL) and receive pre-programme preparation materials; all participants receive a certificate on completion to support UCAS and CV applications.

The programme is aimed at 15-18 year olds considering medicine and healthcare careers; no prior medical experience is required. Study Mind runs a bursary scheme (full/75%/50%) for eligible disadvantaged students - applications require documentary evidence, an essay and a teacher reference.
