The Summer Academic Experience Courses (SAEC) at the University of St Andrews are three-week residential programmes for high school students, taught by current university academic staff. Students experience university-style teaching through lectures and tutorials, receive a student ID card and have free access to university facilities including the library and sports centre.
Courses include guest presentations, laboratory or practical resources where relevant, and organised field trips and cultural excursions.
Accommodation is provided at Andrew Melville Hall with guaranteed single rooms and on-site pastoral care; all daily meals are included. Airport and train station transfers from specified arrival/departure points are included in the programme fee.
The timetable combines morning and afternoon teaching with evening activities and a full extracurricular programme to complement academic study.
Available course strands include Creative Writing; Cinema, Ideas and Society; Management, Economics and Entrepreneurship; Medicine; Physical Science, Mathematics and Computer Science; Psychology and Neuroscience; Social Science and Humanities; and Sustainable Development. Applicants must submit an academic transcript, a reference on headed paper, and a short personal statement, and meet English language requirements where applicable.

£6,850
Course fee for 2025 entry is £6,850 (all-inclusive). A deposit of £500 must be paid within two weeks of receiving a conditional offer or by Monday 6 April 2026, whichever is sooner. The all-inclusive fee covers tuition, materials, accommodation, meals, airport/train transfers on specified arrival/departure dates, extracurricular programme, field trips and Sports Centre membership; it does not include airfare or personal expenses.
