Apply NowCurious what a medical career actually looks like? Join UCLA’s three-week on-campus Summer Discovery: explore specialties, gain hands-on skills, connect with clinicians and researchers, and boost your uni/career readiness.
This is a three-week, on-campus Summer Discovery program at UCLA designed for high-school students interested in medical and health-science careers. Through in-class lectures, presentations, discussions and field trips, participants explore a wide range of medical professions including pediatrics, family medicine, OB-GYN, nursing, plastic surgery, emergency medicine, dentistry and research.
The program includes hands-on learning, field experiences and access to UCLA facilities.
Students engage with current healthcare topics - medical ethics, health disparities, biomedical research, epidemics, healthcare costs, cancer research, genetic engineering and healthcare reform - and learn about academic and professional pathways into specialist roles. The course offers portfolio-building documentation and, for an additional fee, the opportunity to earn CPR certification.
Residential and day options are available, with supervised campus life, excursions and structured daily schedules.
Upon completion students receive a Course Completion Certificate and a Letter of Recognition; students in credit-bearing classes receive grade reports and instructions for requesting a university transcript. International students receive visa support documentation, transportation assistance and optional shuttle services for an additional fee.
