Surbiton High School offers Dance Scholarships to talented performers who wish to participate fully in the school's dance programme. The school notes that it is desirable, though not essential, for candidates to have studied GCSE Dance; all Sixth Form Dance Scholars will be expected to take A-level Dance.
The scholarships are aimed at Sixth Form students (A-level level).
To apply, candidates must submit a report or reference from a dance teacher outlining relevant performance experience and successes, a filmed performance of approximately one to two minutes (maximum), and a current photo. All videos, photos and documents should be uploaded to the Secure Transfer File provided by the Admissions team and named with the applicant's full name and a short descriptive title (for example: JANE SMITH, Dance Performance).
Submissions are to be sent to the Head of Dance.
Shortlisted candidates will undertake assessment and audition activities. This includes a 45-minute written paper referencing and analysing a live dance performance (candidates may bring two A4 sides of notes), preparation of two contrasting dance pieces of approximately one minute each, and a short interview with the Director of Drama and Dance to discuss commitment and broader interest in the subject.
