Spend up to a week shadowing and observing in clinical or non-clinical healthcare settings, from inpatient and outpatient services to community roles and support functions. Some placements may take you into patients’ homes or local communities.

Sussex Community NHS Trust offers work experience placements of up to one week for school, college and university students, as well as people considering a career change. The placements are designed to give participants a realistic introduction to working in healthcare through shadowing and observation in a work setting.

Placements can be clinical or non-clinical and may take place in a range of settings, including inpatient areas, outpatient services, community-based roles and corporate or support functions. The trust says it mainly provides community nursing in Sussex, so some opportunities may involve work in patients’ homes or local communities.

Demand is high, and specific requests cannot always be guaranteed, but the team will try to find the best available placement.

Applicants should email the Work Experience Team with their name, age, area of interest, and the location they can travel to, including how far they are able to travel. Applications should be sent at least a month in advance of the dates requested.
