Clear paths, cut scrub and repair boardwalks across wildlife reserves in the Hastings area, working under Rangers’ guidance. No experience is needed, and you can join monthly Thursday sessions that fit your availability.

This is a practical conservation volunteering role with Sussex Wildlife Trust, supporting reserve work in the Hastings area. Volunteers join a conservation group that helps care for sites such as Marline Valley, Filsham Reedbed, Gillham Wood and Flatropers Wood, working under the guidance of the Trust’s Rangers.

Typical tasks vary by reserve and can include glade maintenance, coppicing, path clearance, gate and fence repairs, bracken cutting and scrub clearance in meadows. At Filsham Reedbed, work can also include scrub and reed cutting, maintaining paths for visitor access, and repairing boardwalks, fences and bridges.

The group meets once a month on a Thursday, and volunteers are encouraged to attend regularly where possible, although it is also possible to join sessions that suit individual availability and the task location. No experience is needed; enthusiasm is the main requirement, and volunteers should be reasonably fit for hands-on outdoor work.
