Take on practical conservation at Tilgate Park and nearby green spaces, from coppicing and hedge planting to wildlife surveys, pond maintenance and basic bushcraft. Sessions run twice a month on Wednesdays, with some travel expenses available.
Sussex Wildlife Trust’s Youth Ranger volunteering role in Crawley offers 16 to 25 year olds the chance to join practical conservation sessions at Tilgate Park and other local green spaces. The project is designed to improve habitats for wildlife and people while helping participants learn new skills, build confidence and gain experience that could support future jobs or volunteering opportunities.
Volunteers take part in a range of hands-on outdoor tasks, including coppicing, hedge planting, green woodworking, food growing, composting, meadow planting, wildlife surveying and monitoring, pond maintenance, bird and bat boxes, orchard maintenance, scrub clearance, maintaining Forest School sites and basic bushcraft. No experience is needed, and the sessions are open to everyone in the age group.
The role is based around twice-monthly Wednesday sessions and some travel expenses are available.
Twice monthly on Wednesdays, 10:00am to 2:00pm
