Think Space is a series of free online public lectures hosted by the Royal Observatory Greenwich that features astrophysicists and space scientists presenting cutting-edge research across astronomy, physics, planetary geology and space exploration. The series offers live online talks and keeps recordings of previous lectures available for later viewing to reach a broad audience interested in contemporary space science.
The upcoming lecture (15 January 2026, 18:00–19:00 UTC) is titled "Listening to the Universe: In Search of Hidden Black Holes" and is presented by Rose Shepherd (Newcastle University). The talk explores how sonification — representing data with sound — can be used as both a research and communication tool in astronomy, offering alternative ways to explore invisible signals in the Universe and to make astronomy more accessible.
The lectures are free and delivered online. Attendees are encouraged to subscribe to the Royal Observatory Greenwich space newsletter for updates and to access recordings of past events on the Royal Observatory Greenwich YouTube channel.
