The Together Project is recruiting volunteer Songs & Smiles Group Welcomers to support intergenerational music sessions that bring together older people, parents/guardians and children. Sessions combine music, movement and singing using nursery rhymes, old favourites and popular hits from across the decades, with percussion instruments, coloured scarves and a bubble machine to create an uplifting, inclusive atmosphere.
Welcomers greet participants, write name badges, hand out instruments and props, assist with setting up and packing away, and support the Group Leader to ensure sessions run smoothly. Volunteers will chat with participants of all ages and help create a warm, inclusive environment.
No previous experience is required; comprehensive training is provided and references are available after six months. Sessions run weekly (term time) at local care homes and assisted living schemes. The role is suitable for a wide range of people - students, parents, retired people or anyone with a few hours to spare - and provides health and social care-related work experience while helping build friendships between generations.
Location
- No previous experience required
- Comfortable around very young children and older people (some participants may be living with conditions such as dementia)
- Able to commit to a one-hour session (plus set-up and pack-down) once a week during term time
Unpaid volunteer role. Reasonable travel expenses can be reimbursed if agreed in advance.
