Explore local government through a work experience placement. Identify a department that interests you to help arrange a suitable placement, with opportunities across areas such as social care, housing, finance, IT, planning, waste management and public health.

Torbay Council is offering work experience opportunities for young people who are interested in finding out more about local government and public sector work. Applicants are encouraged to explore the council’s careers website before applying and to identify a department that particularly interests them so that the best possible placement can be arranged.

The council highlights a range of departments where work experience may be available, including Adult and Community Services, Children’s Services, Finance, Corporate Services, Pride in Place and Public Health. These areas cover services such as social care, housing, revenue and benefits, communications, IT, planning, waste management, carbon reduction and health improvement.

This application form is for students who will be 16 or over at the start of their placement. If you are 15 or under, the council asks you to speak to your School Careers Lead for more information about its work experience opportunities.
