The BSc (Hons) Transport Planning degree apprenticeship integrates academic learning at degree level with on-the-job practical training. Apprentices develop practical, analytical and digital skills to create, plan, coordinate and deliver transport planning projects that deliver safe and environmentally sustainable transport solutions.

The programme includes online seminars, in-person bootcamps, workplace-applied activities and 1:1 support from academic staff.

This programme is designed to be studied alongside full-time employment and is suitable for new hires to the transport industry or experienced professionals seeking a formal qualification. Typical learning outcomes include building transport appraisal models, designing behaviour-change programmes, stakeholder engagement, data analysis and project management.

Apprentices will be supported by a dedicated Success Manager Team and have access to personalised academic support.

Key logistics: course length is 36–39 months with virtual delivery (distance learning) and up to one week of in-person learning each year in London. Start months are listed as January, April and October.

Funding is available via the government apprenticeship levy or co-investment arrangements; employers can book a consultation call to discuss funding and onboarding.

  • Must be employed in a suitable role with responsibilities aligned to the Transport Planner apprenticeship standard
  • Typically three A-levels (or equivalent) at BBB or above
  • GCSE Maths, English and IT at grade 4/C or above
  • Meet the government’s residency requirements (usually living in the UK for the past three years)
  • Have left full-time education before the apprenticeship start date
  • Be able to complete the apprenticeship (including end-point assessment) within applicable time constraints (e.g., visa or fixed-term contract)
  • Be at least 16 years old
Pay & Benefits

Apprenticeship training costs are funded via the government levy or a co-investment model. Apprentices are employed by their organisation and paid by their employer; training funding is separate.
