Trinity Laban’s Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) is an intensive dance programme for talented young people who want to develop their skills in a supportive and high-level training environment. Students take classes in contemporary dance, ballet and hip-hop, alongside creative work, performance development and physical conditioning.
The programme is designed to help young dancers build technical ability, creativity, performance quality and confidence. It also includes masterclasses, career and training pathway sessions, visits to see professional dance work, and opportunities to work on choreographic projects and termly sharings.
CAT aims to prepare participants for further training and future careers in dance if that is the right path for them. Training takes place during term time at Trinity Laban’s Laban Building, with a year-round commitment that includes weekend classes and, for some students, weekday sessions.
The scheme is part of the Music and Dance Scheme, and financial support may be available to help cover tuition and, in some cases, travel costs.

Location
- Open to young people aged 12-17 with talent and potential in dance.
- Applicants should be highly motivated, eager to develop new skills and ready for a long-term commitment to intensive, regular dance training.
- We welcome students with varying dance experience, gained in formal or informal settings.
- No formal qualifications are needed.
- Boys and young men are actively encouraged to apply.
- The programme is suitable for young people with moderate access and support needs such as autism, a learning disability and/or neurodiversity up to 25 years old.
Open Days are free to attend. The CAT programme has fees, but financial support is available through the Music and Dance Scheme. It is free to participate if total relevant household income is £35,262.46 or less. Families earning above this may receive a smaller bursary, and families earning over £77,578.92 pay the full fees of £4,344 per year. Trinity Laban bursaries are also available to support part-MDS bursary holders and full fee payers with some costs.
