The Trinity Laban Next Wave Big Band is a free jazz project for young musicians aged 11 to 18. It brings together players who already have some jazz experience and want to develop their ensemble playing, improvisation and musicianship through classic big band repertoire from the twentieth century.
Participants rehearse weekly during term time at Trinity Laban’s music building in Greenwich. Sessions are led by Jazz Fellow Otto Kampa and focus on learning music by ear as well as from charts, with support for players who are ready for more advanced challenges.
Across the year, musicians can also take part in occasional skills development sessions, masterclasses, side-by-side opportunities and public performances. The project is designed to be supportive, collaborative and ambitious, giving young people the chance to connect with other jazz musicians and grow together.
