Curious about life at uni studying ancient Greece and Rome? Join UCL’s Classics and the Ancient World Taster Day to explore lectures, meet academics, sample languages and archaeology, and boost your UCAS choices with real insight.

UCL's Departmental Taster Days are short on-campus events aimed at school students considering undergraduate study in Classics and the Ancient World. They are explicitly for students in Years 11 to 13 and for anyone thinking of applying for the Classics and the Ancient World BA.

Sessions give an introduction to the department and the subjects it covers.

Events typically last around two to three hours and include sample lectures on the history, archaeology, languages and literature of Greece, Rome, Egypt and the Near and Middle East. Attendees can hear academic staff from the Department of Greek and Latin, UCL History and the Institute of Archaeology, listen to talks by current students about their experiences, speak informally with staff and students, and take tours of the department and campus.

A sample event is scheduled for 29 October 2025 (2pm4:00pm) in Lecture Theatre G6 at the UCL Institute of Archaeology, 31-34 Gordon Square, London WC1H 0PY. Tickets are provided via Eventbrite (link on the UCL page). For queries contact Dr Mark Weeden or Dr Mairéad McAuley as listed on the page.
