Dreaming of med school? Join UCL’s year-long Target Medicine Mentoring Scheme to pair with a UCL medical student, build application-ready skills through on-campus group sessions and online mentoring, and boost your chances of getting into uni.
The Target Medicine Mentoring Scheme (TMMS) at UCL is a year-long programme for Year 12 students from underrepresented backgrounds who have the aspiration and potential to apply to medical school. Successful applicants are paired with a current UCL medical student mentor for the calendar year.
The programme combines six compulsory face-to-face group mentoring sessions held on the UCL Bloomsbury campus with regular e-mentoring via the Brightside platform and a programme of optional events to support applications.
Face-to-face sessions cover practical preparation for medical school applications including choosing medical schools, obtaining work experience, writing personal statements, UCAT preparation, and admissions interviews. Participants are expected to attend all mentor sessions (scheduled evenings across the academic year) and to engage with their mentor at least once every two weeks online.
The scheme runs from January (Year 12) through December (Year 13), with the 2026 cohort scheduled across specific evening and daytime session dates on campus.
Applications are submitted through the online Qualtrics form linked on the UCL Target Medicine webpage. For further queries contact the Target Medicine team at targetmedicine@ucl.ac.uk.
