This is a 4-week MOOC offered by Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) that explores how cities can be designed as "Urban Landscapes of Care" with a focus on early childhood development. The course invites learners from planning and design disciplines to analyze urban contexts through qualitative and quantitative methods, experience the city from children's perspectives, and design safe, inclusive public spaces for young children and their caregivers.
Modules cover the composition of cities, public space, early childhood development, design principles for child-friendly environments, participatory community engagement tools, and implementation/impact measurement. The course includes videos, readings, assignments, discussion prompts and peer review; assessments (16 assignments) and a shareable certificate are available for learners who purchase the Certificate experience.
Course materials are developed in English, videos are recorded in Spanish with English subtitles, and learners are encouraged to have an intermediate background in landscape architecture, urban design or related fields. Delivery is fully online with a flexible schedule.
Learners will produce a practical implementation roadmap and design outputs as part of the course assessments. Financial aid is available for those who cannot afford the enrollment fee.
