The University of St Andrews Access Award is a means-tested scholarship designed to help prospective undergraduate students with the cost of studying. It provides non-repayable financial support based on household income and demonstrated need, rather than academic merit alone.
Depending on a student’s circumstances, the award can include maintenance support, a contribution towards university or private accommodation, and a sports membership discount. - Applicants to the Scottish Graduate Entry Medicine (ScotGEM) MBChB are not eligible.
- Distance learning (digital) courses are not eligible.
- Applicants must be studying in one of the listed schools or departments: Art History, Biology, Chemistry, Classics, Computer Science, Divinity, Earth and Environmental Sciences, English, Film Studies, Geography and Sustainable Development, History, International Relations, Mathematics and Statistics, Medicine, Modern Languages, Philosophy, Physics and Astronomy, Psychology and Neuroscience, Social Anthropology, or Business School.
- Selection is based on financial need and supporting evidence of household income.
- Applicants should demonstrate a below-average household income and a need for funding.
- Applicants with household income below £34,000 can apply once to be considered for various awards.
- Applicants with household income of £34,000 and above may still apply for a Wardlaw or other non-guaranteed scholarship if they meet the criteria and funding is available.
- Widening participation applicants are particularly welcomed if they live in a SIMD decile 1-4 area, are care experienced, estranged from family, seeking asylum or have refugee status in the UK, or are a carer providing unpaid care.
