Hear Professor James L. (Jay) McClelland explore how AI and human cognition share principles - and how people can learn and think with less data, less exact storage and less parallel computation. The lecture covers memory, language and intelligent behaviour, followed by a reception.

Professor James L. (Jay) McClelland delivers this inaugural Birmingham Lecture in Human Brain Health, exploring one of the big questions of our time: are people still smarter than machines? The talk looks at the relationship between artificial intelligence and human cognition, drawing on Professor McClelland’s pioneering work in cognitive science and neural networks.

The lecture considers how AI systems and the human brain share some similar principles, while also highlighting the many ways people can operate with far less data, less exact storage and less parallel computation. It is aimed at anyone interested in the human mind, brain health, artificial intelligence and the science of learning, memory, language and intelligent behaviour.

A reception follows the lecture.
