Explore why prices rise, how interest rates shift and how the Bank of England responds in an interactive economics session led by two professors. Dig into money supply, energy prices, markets and regulation, connecting economic theory to current events.
Join the University of Buckingham’s Economics Taster Session to explore the economics behind one of the biggest issues affecting everyday life: the cost of living crisis. The session looks at why prices rise, how interest rates change, what drives inflation, and what role the Bank of England plays in responding to economic pressures.
During the interactive session, participants will examine topics including money supply, energy prices, markets and regulation, and the links between economic theory and current events. It is designed to help prospective students understand how economists think about household finances, business decisions and wider living standards.
The session also offers a taste of studying Economics at the University of Buckingham, including the development of analytical and critical-thinking skills and exposure to real-world issues. It will be led by Professors Ali Kabiri and Juan Castañeda, who will discuss economics and policy debates in a way that connects classroom ideas to the real world.
