University Centre Grimsby Writing Competition 2026 invites post-16 students from Grimsby, Cleethorpes and the surrounding area to showcase their writing across three categories: Prose Fiction, Non-Fiction/Journalism and Scriptwriting. Entrants can submit original work in their chosen category, with word limits of up to 2,000 words for prose fiction and non-fiction, or a 10-15 page script for scripted media.
The competition is designed to give emerging writers a chance to build confidence, sharpen their creative voice and gain recognition from university lecturers and professional writers. Entries are judged on creativity, structure, originality, communication and audience engagement, depending on the category.
Winners receive gift voucher prizes for first, second and third place in each category, and shortlisted writers may also be included in a published anthology produced by University Centre Grimsby. The competition is open to students at sixth forms, further education colleges and other eligible education providers.
