An Operations / Departmental Manager apprenticeship trains experienced supervisors and managers to lead teams and projects to deliver operational or departmental objectives in support of an organisation's strategy. Typical responsibilities include creating and delivering operational plans, managing projects and leading teams.
The apprenticeship is assessed through a range of end-point assessment methods including a knowledge test, a structured competency-based interview, assessment of a portfolio of evidence, and a presentation on a work-based project with Q&A. On successful completion apprentices may register with professional bodies such as the Chartered Management Institute and the Institute of Leadership & Management.
Entry normally requires substantial workplace experience in a lower management role and potentially a Level 3 management/business qualification; applicants are typically expected to have achieved GCSE English and maths (grade C or equivalent) or be capable of achieving Functional Skills Level 2 in those subjects before completion. The programme is delivered in the workplace and starts are available throughout the year.
Employer funding follows the Apprenticeship Levy rules (employers with payroll over A33m fund via levy; non-levy payers may pay up to 5% of course cost).
Level 5 Apprenticeship (Operations / Departmental Manager). On completion apprentices can register as full members with the Chartered Management Institute and/or the Institute of Leadership & Management.
