Want to dive into real environmental science? Join UEA’s five-day summer school to build lab and field skills, work with academics across ecology, climate and geophysics, and boost your uni and career choices-apply by 09 February 2026.

Deadline in 41 days

Environmental Sciences Unlocked is a five-day, non-residential summer course run by the University of East Anglia for Year 10 students with an interest in environmental sciences and related subjects. Participants will gain practical laboratory and field experience, work with UEA academics and specialists, and be introduced to disciplines such as earth sciences, ecology, geophysics, climate science and sustainability.

Activities are pitched at GCSE grade 4 level.

The programme combines hands-on experiments, fieldwork and sessions that connect school subjects like geography and biology to real-world environmental challenges including climate change, biodiversity loss and sustainable land use. Students will use specialist facilities and equipment at UEA, meet current university students and talk to environmental scientists about career paths.

The course is aimed at Year 10 students attending state-funded schools in Norfolk and North East Suffolk and is designed to support those less likely to progress to higher education. Places are free but limited; if applications exceed spaces, places may be allocated by random selection.
