Join a live Economics session with an associate professor and step into the role of policy adviser, testing how governments, businesses and charities tackle market failures. Explore taxation and negative externalities, make predictions, then compare your ideas with actual regulation and experiments.
This live, interactive Economics session explores realistic interventions for market failures with Dr Amrish Patel, Associate Professor in the School of Economics at the University of East Anglia. It is designed for students who want to see how economic ideas are applied to real-world problems and policy decisions.
Participants will consider how governments, businesses and the third sector try to tackle market failures, including questions around taxation, negative externalities and when interventions might backfire. The session uses real-world examples and asks students to step into the role of policy adviser, making predictions and comparing their ideas with actual regulation and experiments.
It is suitable for classroom groups or for students joining individually from school or home, and slides will be shared where available.
