The University of Exeter's first essay competition of the 2026/27 academic year invites GCSE, A-Level, IB, T-Level and BTEC students to respond to one of three questions in Geography or Modern Languages. Entries can be a written essay of 1,000 words or a video of up to 7 minutes.
Example questions include "The UK is extremely vulnerable to food shortages. How can the UK become more food secure? " (Geography) and "With the development of AI and live language translation, learning a language is pointless.
Discuss. " (Modern Languages). Entries are judged on a well-developed, critical argument, research and referencing, clear structure, originality, and accuracy of spelling, punctuation and grammar.
The winning entries receive £100 in vouchers and a University of Exeter hoodie. Enter through the online form on the competition page by Friday 23 October 2026.
