Spend two days shadowing doctors across hospital areas, then practise suturing, intravenous cannulation and resuscitation in simulation sessions. Hear from doctors and medical students and get guidance on medical school applications. Complete the course and shadowing to receive certificates of completion.

The Future Doctor Programme at University Hospitals Dorset is a three-day medical work experience opportunity for sixth form students who are considering Medicine. It is designed to give participants a realistic taste of the profession through career information, guidance on the medical school application process, and the chance to ask questions about becoming a doctor.

The programme includes a one-day Introduction to Medicine course with talks from doctors and medical students, plus practical simulation sessions such as suturing, intravenous cannulation and resuscitation. The remaining two days are spent shadowing doctors in different hospital areas, subject to occupational health approval.

Students who attend the Introduction to Medicine course and the shadowing programme receive certificates of completion that can support their medical school applications.
