University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust offers work experience placements in its hospitals for school and college students. Opportunities can include one-to-one shadowing or group experiences, with lectures and tours of key departments led by a wide range of professionals.

The placements cover areas such as administration, education, business and finance, IT and communications, catering and portering, building repair and maintenance, science, pharmacy, medicine and nursing, as well as allied health professions.

Placements are age restricted and usually last one to two days, with some extending to a maximum of 10 working days depending on the host department. The page also explains the application process, which involves a confirmation email, occupational health checks, a risk assessment, a placement agreement and an induction before starting.

Alongside in-person placements, the Trust signposts an allied health professionals online work experience programme and other free online resources for students who want to learn more about healthcare careers.
