Extraordinary Challenges: Smarter Cities is an on-campus outreach event from the University of Plymouth for Year 11-13 students. It invites young people to think about how geography, engineering and architecture can combine to shape smarter, more sustainable cities in the future.
The session is hands-on and collaborative, encouraging students to explore real-world issues affecting urban places and communities. Participants then work together to develop, design and pitch their own smart city ideas, building creativity, problem-solving and communication skills along the way.
The event is aimed at students who are interested in how people, places and the built environment connect, and it offers a chance to experience university-style thinking in an accessible school or college outreach setting. Most places are organised for schools and colleges, though individual students may sometimes be able to attend with appropriate permissions.
