Apply NowCurious how geography can shape the future? Join University of Portsmouth's on-campus taster day to explore Geography, Environmental Science, Biology and Marine Biology, try hands-on labs, meet academics and students, and build skills for uni and climate-focused careers.
The University of Portsmouth Geography & Environmental Taster Day gives Year 12 students a one-day, on-campus introduction to studying Geography, Environmental Science, Biology and Marine Biology at degree level. Attendees will hear from academic staff and current students about degree options, careers and research, and will learn how environmental science can address issues such as climate change, public health and ecosystem restoration.
Participants take part in hands-on sessions using laboratory equipment (pH meters, nutrient analysis kits, spectrophotometers), microscopy activities to observe coastal change, and practical exercises in marine population estimation. There are multiple parallel sessions (Geography & Biology, Geography, Marine Biology, and Environmental Science & Marine Environmental Science) so students can experience different specialist topics during the day, and there are opportunities to chat with lecturers and students about personal statements and the transition from college to university.
The event is in-person on the University of Portsmouth campus; meet at King Henry Building at 9:00am. Schools and colleges can book students individually or teachers can book groups via the event booking links on the University of Portsmouth website.
