The University of Portsmouth Health Sciences Taster Day is a one-day, in-person event for Year 12 students interested in health-related degree programmes. Attendees choose one of three subject streams when they book: Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences, Healthcare (including Paramedic Science, Diagnostic Radiography, Operating Department Practice and Nursing), or Dental Care.
The day features interactive sessions, hands-on simulations in the Centre for Simulation in Health & Care, and practical activities such as basic airway management, chest compressions and a pharmacy/biomedical escape-room patient case.
Participants will experience subject-specific demonstrations and simulations (for example tooth-extraction simulation models, X-ray demonstrations and the Anatomage anatomy table), meet current students and lecturers, and learn about placement opportunities and career paths linked to degrees in dentistry, healthcare, pharmacy and biomedical sciences. The programme also includes guidance on university choices, researching courses, preparing UCAS personal statements and interview preparation.
Check-in opens at St Michael's Building (St Michael's Rd, PO1 2DT) from 9:30am. Teachers should book groups of students via the event's teacher booking page. Coach/minibus parking is recommended on Museum Road; further travel and check-in information is provided on the University's taster day guide.
