Want to explore medicine at Sheffield? Join Access to Sheffield to work with current med students, build interview and UCAS skills, and get a real taste of study and campus life to strengthen your application.

Prize: Contextual offer from the University of Sheffield, subject to conditions, for students who successfully complete the programme.

Access to Sheffield (Medicine) is a widening participation programme from the University of Sheffield for students who are interested in becoming doctors. It is designed to raise awareness, aspiration, and achievement, while helping participants reflect on their experiences for UCAS applications and medical school interviews.

Participants work with current undergraduate medical students to get a clearer sense of what studying medicine at Sheffield is like. The programme includes structured support around the realities of medical study, plus opportunities to build confidence, ask questions, and learn more about the profession and the course.

In Year 12, students take part in a welcome and team-building day, a medical careers conference, a first aid day, an integrated learning activity, a first-year medical school lecture, and a three-day residential summer school with clinical skills, anatomy, ethics, and mock interview sessions. In Year 13, the programme continues with UCAS guidance, personal statement support, one-to-one mock interview practice, and a celebration evening for students who complete both phases.

Students also gain access to Observe GP, an online video platform from the Royal College of General Practitioners, and successful completion can lead to a contextual offer, subject to conditions.
