Book an individual pre-application campus visit to meet staff and student ambassadors before applying. If you’re in care in Year 12 or your first year of A levels, Ignite your Journey supports your transition to university and may include extra admissions consideration and a bursary.

The University of Southampton offers support for estranged students, looked-after children and care leavers who are considering university. This includes individual pre-application visits, giving young people the chance to visit campus, meet staff and speak with student ambassadors before applying.

A key strand of support is Ignite your Journey, a programme for young people in care in Year 12 or the first year of A level study. It is designed to help students with the transition to university and may provide additional admissions consideration and a bursary.

The university also provides contextual admissions support and on-course support for eligible students once they enrol. This can include an annual bursary, a designated point of contact, extended halls accommodation, a welcome pack, and extra support linked to graduation costs.

A separate travel bursary is available for eligible students invited to open days or applicant visit days.
