National Manufacturing Day at the University of Sunderland is a hands-on taster event for Year 13 students who want to explore engineering and manufacturing study pathways. Participants can take part in interactive workshops focused on sustainable manufacturing, product design and modern engineering practice, with a strong emphasis on practical learning and real-world applications.
The programme includes sessions on Industry 4. 0 and smart factories, strength of materials, and a reverse engineering and metrology challenge. Students will use specialist facilities and equipment, including 3D scanners, CAD software and laboratory resources, to test, inspect and compare engineered components.
The event also offers a chance to tour the facilities, hear from lecturers, and speak with current students about their experiences studying at the university.
