The University of York Sixth Form Discovery Days are in-person events run by the School of Physics, Engineering and Technology for sixth-form students. The days are open to individual students in years 12 and 13 or to teacher-accompanied school and college groups.
Each day offers a mixture of hands-on workshops, laboratory and facilities tours, and lectures, and provides opportunities to meet current students and staff. Events focus on subject-specific themes within physics, engineering and technology.
Examples from the 2025/26 programme include an Artificial Intelligence Discovery Day (Thursday 26 February 2026, 10:00-16:00) and a Sustainable Energy Discovery Day (Tuesday 31 March 2026, 10:00-16:00), both held at the Exhibition Centre, Campus West, University of York. Timetables include multiple workshops, a research lecture and lunch (lunch and refreshments are provided on the example days).
Admission is free but booking is required for each event. To book a place follow the specific event links on the School of Physics, Engineering and Technology website. If bookings have not yet opened you can join the relevant mailing list to be notified.
Teachers booking groups must attend with their group, and individual attendees may bring a parent/carer who will join the start/end of day activities and lunch.
