Curious about a STEM future? Join a week-long, in-person work experience at the University of York: explore eight departments, meet undergraduates, tour research labs, attend lectures and run experiments to build real skills for uni and careers. Apply by 25 Jan 2026.

Deadline in 26 days

Explore the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) with a week-long, in-person work experience on the University of York campus. The programme gives Year 10 and Year 11 students the chance to meet current undergraduates, attend lectures, tour research laboratories and carry out experimental work in teaching labs.

Participants will spend time across eight areas of the university: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Environment and Geography, Mathematics, Physics and Psychology. A resource pack with full programme details and locations will be provided approximately one month before the start of the week.

The course runs Monday 22 June to Friday 26 June 2026 (10:00 16:00 daily). It is non-residential; students must be able to travel to campus within one hour each way and attend every day. Places are limited, allocation is based on written responses and widening participation criteria, and successful applicants will be notified by the end of February 2026.

A small number of travel bursaries may be available and will be offered to some applicants awarded a place.
