Join the University of York School of Physics, Engineering and Technology for a Year 12 work experience week focused on physics and engineering. The programme runs Monday 20 July to Friday 24 July 2026 and gives students a taste of studying at a Russell Group university through lectures, research skills sessions, researcher Q&As and a supervised mini research project.
The programme is hybrid: Monday to Thursday sessions are delivered online (approximately 1–3 hours of interactive activity each day) with additional independent project work outside taught sessions, and Friday is an in-person day on the University of York campus featuring lab tours, hands-on experiments and engineering problem-solving. Participants will produce a university-style poster and present it at an online conference, and will have opportunities to speak to current undergraduates.
Applications are open until 25 January 2026 and successful applicants will be notified by the end of February 2026. Places are limited and allocated based on written responses and widening participation criteria.
A certificate of recognition will be provided on completion and a small number of travel bursaries may be available for eligible students for the in-person day.
