Volunteer in Costa Rica and support classroom learning in local schools and after-school education projects. Based in San Ramón de Alajuela and surrounding towns, the programme places volunteers alongside local teachers where they help children and teenagers learn in a supportive, engaging environment.
Volunteers can assist with lessons or, depending on their confidence and subject knowledge, lead activities independently. Typical responsibilities include teaching English and other subjects such as math, science, music, or art, as well as planning interactive lessons, helping with assignments, and encouraging participation.
The programme is designed to be flexible, so placements are matched to each volunteer’s skills and interests. No prior teaching experience is required, making it a good option for people who are energetic, patient, and enthusiastic about working with young people.
Volunteers work with two age groups, children aged 6 to 12 and teenagers aged 13 to 17, and usually spend around four to six hours a day on placement. The experience also includes living with a host family, two meals a day, airport pickup, and a structured orientation, giving volunteers both practical teaching experience and a deeper cultural immersion in Costa Rica.
