Get first-hand experience in NHS clinical or non-clinical departments, from pharmacy and physiotherapy to surgery, administration and finance. See the day-to-day demands of healthcare and the behaviours expected at work, with placements across a range of teams.
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust offers work experience placements for young people who want to understand what it is like to work in the NHS. The placements are designed to help students make informed career choices by giving them first-hand exposure to healthcare settings and the day-to-day demands of working life.
Placements are available in appropriate departments across both clinical and non-clinical areas. Examples include pharmacy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, medical and long-term conditions, surgery, general administration and finance.
The aim is to give students a practical introduction to the world of work, including the behaviours and attitudes expected in a healthcare environment.
Applications are handled through the Placement, Employment and Experience Team and are subject to eligibility checks, relevant clearances, risk assessments and any required initial training. Placements are unpaid, and the online application form is opened in recurring application windows each year, with set placement weeks shown on the form.
