Westminster College’s Theology Essay Prize is a free essay competition for Year 12 or equivalent sixth-form students. Entrants choose one of five questions exploring theology, religion, philosophy and ethics, and are encouraged to think beyond the classroom by reading widely and developing their own reasoned response.
Essays must be between 1,500 and 2,500 words, written in English, and include a bibliography. The competition rewards clear thinking, careful argument, independent research and strong written expression.
Students do not need to be studying Religious Studies, Theology or Philosophy to enter. Entries are submitted online as PDF or Word documents and are judged anonymously. A winner and runner-up will be chosen, with some essays also recognised as Highly Commended.
Selected entrants may be invited to an event at Westminster College, Cambridge.
