Thin holly, remove rhododendron and help maintain woodland paths in Shining Cliff Woods, in a small teen group led by an experienced outdoor practitioner. Sessions may also include whittling, fire lighting or campfire cooking.

Join Woodland Connections for a friendly teen volunteer session in Shining Cliff Woods, where young people can make friends, give back to the community, and help care for a beautiful ancient woodland. These in-person sessions are designed for young people aged 12+ and offer a supportive environment for trying practical conservation work outdoors.

Volunteers may get involved in tasks such as thinning holly, removing rhododendron, coppicing hazel, thinning saplings, and maintaining footpaths and ditches. The sessions can also include simple bushcraft activities such as whittling, fire lighting and campfire cooking, giving participants the chance to build confidence while learning hands-on woodland skills.

Each session is led by Kate, an experienced outdoor practitioner with a background in conservation and wellbeing. Group sizes are kept small, with up to 10 participants, and there may sometimes be an additional helper.

The exact drop-off and pick-up point can vary within the woodland, so attendees are sent the location details and task information in advance.
