This one-week work experience placement gives secondary school students (Years 10 - 13) the chance to go behind the scenes with the Royal Observatory Greenwich astronomy team to learn about astronomy and science communication.

Placements are scheduled for summer 2026 and typically involve hands-on activities such as creating social media posts, observing and evaluating onsite sessions for schools and the public, writing a script for the Look Up! podcast, and speaking with astronomers about university and careers.

Due to renovation work, the astronomy team will be based at the National Maritime Museum from September 2025 and most time will be spent there, with some opportunities to work from home.

The programme is run through Royal Museums Greenwich's Schools Programme and has a formal application process. Applications for August 2025 are closed; further information about 2026 placements will be released in January 2026. For queries, applicants should contact ROGEducation@rmg.co.uk.
