Get hands-on insight into how a wetland centre runs across departments from horticulture and hospitality to learning and reserve presentations. Placements vary by area, with some running Monday to Friday for one week.
WWT Slimbridge offers a limited number of work experience placements each year across a range of departments, including Customer Service and Hospitality, Grounds - Horticulture, Learning and Engagement, and Living Collections - Presentations and Reserve. It is designed for young people who want to gain practical insight into how a wetland centre operates and to experience different areas of work in a conservation setting.
Placements are offered on a departmental basis, so the time commitment and eligibility vary depending on the area. Some placements last for one week only, Monday to Friday, while Living Collections - Presentations placements can run for one or two weeks.
Applicants are encouraged to request an information pack and application form from the work experience coordinator before applying.
The programme is suitable for students at different stages of school, with different age and year group requirements depending on the department. For one of the placement areas, an interview is part of the selection process, so applicants should be prepared for a more formal application stage.
