Explore how drum kit, tuned percussion and timpani can shape GCSE compositions in this free practical workshop. Hear demonstrations, then try the instruments yourself, experimenting with rhythm, texture, timbre, dynamics and structure - no previous percussion experience needed.
This free practical workshop is designed for GCSE Music students who want to explore how percussion can strengthen their compositions. Led by Yamaha Music School North East, the session looks at how drum kit, tuned percussion and timpani can be used to create rhythm, texture, timbre, dynamics and structure in original music.
Participants will see the instruments demonstrated, hear examples of how different percussion sounds affect a musical idea, and then try the instruments themselves. The workshop is suitable for students with no previous percussion experience and includes time for questions, discussion and hands-on experimentation, making it a useful creative session for anyone developing GCSE composition work.
