York St John University Aesthetica Film Festival 2026

Aesthetica Film Festival is York St John University’s annual celebration of independent cinema and screen culture. Hosted at the university since the festival began, it brings together filmmakers, games developers, virtual reality specialists and film fans for a wide-ranging programme of screenings, talks and industry activity.

The festival includes film screenings, industry masterclasses, networking sessions, pitching opportunities, live performances, VR and games labs, and a podcasting lounge. It also features kids’ workshops, so there are activities for younger audiences as well as events for industry visitors and general audiences interested in film and media.

Events take place both in person and online, with screenings and live sessions spread across multiple venues in York, including York St John University’s Lord Mayor’s Walk campus. The festival is a BAFTA-qualifying event and is known for showcasing independent cinema, emerging talent and innovative screen-based storytelling.
